The year is 1202 AD. Maharaj Lakhsmansen – the last acknowledged king of Gaur, is on the throne. Art, culture and prosperity are at their peak. But dark clouds of war loom in the horizon in the form of the Turk aggressor Bakhtiyar Khilji, who was pillaging his way towards Gaur. Two youngsters, Siddhartha and Nandini, meet and build a bond that will last the test of time. One, the King’s daughter and the other, a young swordfighter burning with valor and courage, are brought together by fate and will soon be consumed in this vortex of time.
Cut to 1932 AD. The oppressive British Raj in Bengal has sparked violence and bloodshed. Netaji has raised a clarion call for complete freedom (sampoora swarajya). Masterda Surya Sen is assimilating a group of revolutionaries and is plotting a revolt. A group of college students in Midnapore join the revolution. Two of them, Tathagata and Panchali, build a close but unspoken friendship, knowing that in the struggle for freedom, relationships may have to be sacrificed.
This original script is set in two of the most tumultuous periods of Bengal’s history and is based on true events. This intense musical explores human emotions that transcend time and geography – and narrates the saga of courage, love, sacrifice and valor. The original musical score, based on Indian classical ragas by Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, transposed the audience to a different world. Guru Jyoti Rout’s unparalleled choreography provided an experience that will live in everyone’s heart for a long time.
